We were excited. Someone told us you should surf in Imsouane before we headed to our surf trip in Morocco. And so, we did. We got up early in the morning and after a powerful traditional Moroccan breakfast full of good proteins (including their famous avocado shake) we started our drive to Imsouane. After a roughly hour through a curved narrow road through the mountains, we arrived at the magical fishermen village with the longest right-hand wave in the Moroccan coastline: Imsouane. A few minutes before we arrived we got stoked with the views of the magical bay.
Perfect lines, long waves, good period and an empty line up. What else could we have asked for? Oh yes, the sun was shining as well! The closer we got to the ocean the excited we were. Finally, we were in our wetsuits. A 3.2 neoprene in December, not bad at all. Just perfect weather and water conditions for the surfing day ahead. The water was warm, around 20 degrees and the wind gave us a good break. We paddle out and the first waves were our way. Catching and riding waves in Imsouane was a dream. Long distance from the line up to the shore and plenty of time to enjoy also the beautiful mountains around the bay while playing with the waves. After 3 hours of fun and adrenaline, we decided to stop for some recovery lunch.
And what a lunch! Fresh fish recently caught by our fishermen neighbors in the water while surfing. We were surprised and very happy to fill our empty stomachs again after such a surf session! That fish was from a different world, but Imsouane is a different world. It’s a tiny fishing village in the middle of the mountains where it is not easy to arrive, but once there, you don’t want to leave it.
Locals treat us very well with some Moroccan tea and cookies before we started our trip back. On the way, we stopped to watch one of the most beautiful sunsets. A reddish sun over the Atlantic ocean and the sand dunes…
We had an amazing surfing day in the magical bay of Imsouane. For sure we will be back very soon. Go Surfing and Forget the rest!
